Optician - Level I (Polishing Technician)

Key Responsibilities

Under general supervision, Optician will set-up and operate precision grinding & polishing machines, both manual and automatic, to perform complex precision fine grinding and polishing of metal and crystalline optical materials to close tolerances. Performs operations to complete one-of-a-kind, small lots and high volume precision production of custom optical components. Understand blue prints and specifications to determine order and method of operation. Sets up and operates testing devices in the optical shop. Optician must work to close tolerances on any type of optical surface including flat, spherical, cylindrical, and will work primarily with reflective and transmitted components. Test and measure complex optical and dimensional characteristics to assure compliance with quality standards using various metrology instruments including scratch/dig standards, interferometers, profilometers, coordinate measuring machines, gauges, pins, and micrometers. Review customer, vendor, and internal documentation for compliance to specifications and standards. Organize & maintain all metrology documentation. Apply all ranges of metrology sciences including inspections, calibrations, and internal/external audits. Prepare & execute metrology plans. Initiate corrective actions & assist manufacturing & engineering personnel with corrective action and MRB activities. Assist department management with work assignments. Develop & improve metrology procedures. 

Payrate: 12.00 - 20.00 (Level I)
